Real Estate In Manzanillo, The Port, and Tourism

Submitted by Manzanillo Blogger on Tuesday, 9 September 2008No Comment

One thing all of us see a lot of in Manzanillo is Real Estate agencies. It seems that everybody and his/her brother is a real estate agent. Some are reputable, others not so much. However, it is a good time to be a real estate agent in Manzanillo because demand for properties is going up, and so are the property values. According to this article I found property values are increasing at a rate of 20% a year! It seems that many houses are for sale here as owners try to liquidate their assets, or cash out. With the world economy in the state that it is in, many are worried.

Prices are bound to get even higher as the port is expanding to allow two cruise ships a day to dock right in the down town area of Manzanillo. This will make Manzanillo one of only about 7 other ports in the world that have their cruise ships dock right in the down town area. Also Manzanillo is supposed to be having its own cruise ship soon! It will leave from the port once a week and run nearly all year long. The city hopes this is going to increase the tourism and revitalize the Manzanillo economy.

Lately the city of Manzanillo has been taking the tourism industry much more seriously. They are inviting local shop owners and others to meetings for suggestions on how to improve the tourism. Things like clean public bathrooms in Centro, a gondola to go up to the side of a mountain to a beautiful lookout point, and other ideas are being discussed. (more on this later) We've even seen the bus stops in Mirimar now are being renovated and are going to have advertisements on them.

There are many changes ahead for this little town.
