Delicia’s Amazing Deli- Restaurant Review

Tacos tacos tacos

One type of food you will find a lot of in Manzanillo is tacos. Tacos dorados, tacos tuxpenos, tacos de cabeza, tacos pastor, tacos de pescado, etc etc... The taco is something of a local specialty in these parts, and they do it well.

We love tacos. In a later post we will be sharing our favorite taco stands with you all and asking for your favorites. However, in a taco saturated market, a bit of variety now and then is always welcome.

The newcomer

Middle Eastern Cuisine is a highly welcomed newcomer to the Manzanillo food scene. In New York we used to get fresh hot Falafel, or Lamb shawarmas on a weekly basis. We'd be lying if we said we didn't miss it terribly.

That's why we were so happy to try Delicia's food. The owner is part Jordanian and prepares the food with a glorious touch of authenticity. If you've never had Falafal (spiced fried chick peas), and a shawarma sounds like something you wear in the Winter, then you are in for a real treat!

Don't go outside without your Shawarma on...

To introduce the food to the Manzanillo locals, they call the shawarmas  "Arabian Tacos."  Honestly they could call it whatever they want to and I would still eat it.

We tried one of each variety- Chicken, Lamb, and Falafel. They came in a fresh pita (tortilla like shell), wrapped in a burrito of flavor. Inside this wrap you find everything you'd expect in your traditional shawarma with meat shavings (unless you got Falafal for all you vegetarians out there), lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and a side of Tzatziki sauce. Tzatziki is a cucumber yogurt sauce that is only one of the most tasty and delicious sauces known to man. We smothered our shawarmas in it and loved every bite.

We also tried a clever rendition of Sushi called a Suprise Roll. It is like a California roll, but instead of using rice and seaweed it is wrapped in a paper thin layer of Jicama root. The Jicama gave it a refreshing unique crispness.  It's sushi with a Mexican flare and it's carb free! "Mexi-Sushi" Do I see a new health fad forming?

Though we have not tried them ourselves yet, we have heard rave reviews for their Panini's as well. Don't worry if you are a vegetarian either, there are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu and tons of different kinds of Mexican cheese. Not many restaurants in Manzanillo can say that.

The bottomline

The price for a Falafal Shawarma is 35 pesos, chicken shawamra is 40 pesos, and lamb shawarma is 45 pesos- very affordable and well worth the cost. There is a vast array of imported items to try. You'll never get bored with their menu. The customer service and quality of food safety is excellent as well! The only thing they didn't have was a killer Mexican flan recipe.

For a real treat, and something a little different, go try out the food at Delicia Deli. You can find them behind Subway Sandwiches next to the casino Juega Juega in the OfficeMax shopping center.

We are making a month long vacation. Please give directions to this place from the Las Brisas neighborhood. Thank you. We are Trader Joe fans from Oregon.

Just drive along the boulevard towards walmart. It’s directly next to the Office Max and behind the Subway sandwich store. You can’t miss those stores. Just park in the somewhat cramped parking lot, and walk towards the casino that is behind the Subway. It will be on your right.
