Classical Music In Manzanillo Mexico
One of the things we miss most about NYC is the music scene. Classical music, live concerts, large and small venue bands. The music scene in Manzanillo Mexico has never even been on the radar. Until now. The following post was written by scribegirl on the Tomzap web forums. I think it will be of interest to many here so I am republishing it:
Classical Music Concert In Manzanillo Mexico
A new non-profit arts and culture organization in Manzanillo called Bellas Artes del Pacifico (www.bellasartesdelpacifico.com) has been created in efforts to increase arts and culture awareness along our beautiful coastline.
Classical concerts are programmed at 8 pm in Salon Marbella of Hotel Marbella in Manzanillo with general admission tickets for 200 pesos on the following dates:
Jan. 8, 2009 -- featuring a concert pianists, DUO PETROV, and operatic singers CANTARES
Feb. 19, 2009 -- featuring classical string quartet, CUARTETO DE BELLAS ARTES
Mar. 19, 2009 -- featuring the chamber orchestra from the University of Colima
Tickets on sale at Salon Marbella and Hotel Costa Brava. Check www.bellasartesdelpacifico.com for more details.
Also, don't miss a special first-of-a-kind "open air" afternoon concert in Plaza Olivia of Boca de Iguanas (just 1 hr north of Manzanillo) at 5 pm on Fri., Jan. 9, 2009, presenting operatic singers, Cantares, and Duo Petrov, an amazing classical piano duo that has traveled the globe.
The concert will take place on the wide stone terrace of the plaza and offer a small seating section (300 pesos) on the grass, as well as casual lawn space (150 pesos) for people who want to bring a picnic, wine and cheese, their own chairs to enjoy the sweet music in the open air. Check Boca De Iguanas for more information on the location.
If any cultural arts afficionados are interested in supporting this non-profit cause, there are two "Friends of the Arts" donor packages for 1,000 pesos (silver donor) and 2,000 pesos (gold donor) where your name would appear in the Donor section of the program. Donations cover costs of transportation, musician payment, and cost of audio/visual rentals, as well as promotional material. This is hopefully the start of many more cultural events involving music, theater, visual arts and installations that Bellas Artes del Pacifico can organize with the support of art-lovers.
(**Larger sponsorship packages for groups, companies, hotels and restaurants also exist and include logos on promotional material and website links on www.bellasartesdelpacifico.com)
Write Renee (renee@mexicanpacific.com) and/or Blanca (blanca@bellasartesdelpacifico.com) to express interest in donating as an arts supporter.
So there you have it! If this is your kind of thing then it should promise to be a very enjoyable evening. Let us know if you are going on the 8th! You will probably see us there!

Thank you for the post. I saw the sign on the auditorio in Manzanillo. This information is very helpful.
At the VIVA VINO SOCIAL CLUB one of our goals is to compliment
Bellas Artes del Pacifico. We are doing this by bringing both Jazz and Blues artists to the CLUB and to the St. Johns Auditorium for Concerts. The 2010 season starts in February with the Eugenio Toussaint Jazz Trio and in March with the Edgar Winters Group.
