10th Annual Manzanillo Beach Clean Up Needs You!

Submitted by Manzanillo Blogger on Friday, 19 September 20085 Comments

The Event:

Saturday September 20th (that's tomorrow) is the 10th annual beach cleanup hosted by our friends at Scuba Shack and gomanzanillo.com. This event has been a big success every year since 1998, with locals, tourists, even the Mexican Navy helping. This year will be the biggest cleanup ever in Manzanillo and we need as many volunteers as possible to make this happen.

That mean you my beloved friends and readers!

The Work:

The cleanup will be divided into four sections: Ocean, Beach, Lagoon, and road. If you are a certified diver you can help with the ocean cleanup and get some free suba diving out of the deal. If you don't dive, there are many many ways you can still help! I will be heading up a team of 6 intrepid adventurers to take some kayaks back into La Boquita's lagoon and clean up the natual sanctuary. The beaches and roads also need a good cleanup.

Help make Manzanillo a clean beautiful place! We need you! (oh and you get a free t-shirt you can proudly sport for your labors)

Time and Location:

10:00 Am at the beach in La Boquita.

Directions:

To get there you drive towards the airport on the main boulivard. Turn left at the light into Club Santiago. Follow the road straight back until you can't drive straight anymore and reach a dirt road the forks. Take the left side (the right side works just as well) and follow it down onto the beach. We'll be waiting for you!

Thank you to all who worked so hard with the clean up. The environment is something very dear to my heart. I only wish the whole world could have a day or even “days” of cleaning. I really worry about our future. Thank you for taking the time to care!!!!!

The whole cleanup went great. We had close to a hundred people I’d say who helped. Two local schools and a university even pitched in to help. I got a lot of good pictures. Will post them on Monday. Right now I’m too exhausted.

    Thanks to everybody as well!

It was loads of fun… even though the captain of my kayak kept ramming me into trees for fun… but hey… helped saved the planet right? Me and another guy were singing the captain planet theme song. :)
