Mariscos Dona Concha- Restaurant Review

Submitted by Manzanillo Blogger on Tuesday, 2 September 2008One Comment

Competition for the title best fish and shrimp tacos can be fierce here. If you asked ten different people you would probably get ten different answers. If you asked us, Mariscos Dóna Concha would be our answer hands down.

Mariscos Dóna Concha is a brightly painted yellow beacon of a restaurant. It boasts a beautiful ocean side view of Santiago bay, under a huge palapa shade. The ocean spray on your face while you eat fresh fish tacos only enhances the experience. In fact the restaurant has beach access so you could come in for a yummy snack after a refreshing swim if you so desired. If you are fortunate you might spy a humpback whale or two while you dine at certain times of the year. The wait staff is kind and attentive, our favorite waiter Martín speaks very good English. Dóna Concha offers a full menu that merits exploration, but at this restaurant we like to stick to what they do best. The fish and shrimp tacos come battered, fried, and sizzling fresh. They are served with salsa and avacado on top. Be sure to ask for the secret sauce because it’s to die for! (we are 73% certain it’s a version of thousand island dressing) The fish and shrimp tacos cost 15 and 19 pesos respectively. Two or three usually fill me up quite nicely.

There used to be a play place for kids in the back to keep those little monkeys busy while the parents eat, but we just noticed that they removed it, probably safer that way.

Dóna Concha is a great place to take your visitors for a great local meal, a beautiful view, and a reasonable price. If you come at the right time during lunch or dinner you will even catch a bit of live music. The restaurant is located directly across from Suites Las Palmas on the main boulevard, just under a giant red Banorte sign. Just drive towards the Las Brisas neighborhood and you can’t miss it.

I tried a few varieties of fish tacos here and thought they were good but not “the best” - I think the fish tacos at Los Caballitos (beside El Fogon) are just as good. However, the shrimp ceviche here was excellent, as was the crab tostada.
